How we work

the garden design process

Depending on which service you require, the process differs, but each project starts with an initial consultation to discuss how and what we can help you with, and the best way in which we can work together to realise your project.

Martin Ogle Horticulture provide a fully professional garden and planting design service creating finely crafted gardens for our clients.  Our design process is broadly a combination of the following six stages.

our design process

I. design Consultation

Our design process begins with a site visit and initial consultation. This is a chance to discuss your needs and aspirations for your garden, it also allows us to acquaint ourselves with the physical make up of your garden.  Following this, a proposal is sent which includes project brief to be confirmed, fees and confirmation of our design process.

II. Concept Design

Informed with all the relevant information from the client brief, the next step is to carry out a topographical survey to map out boundaries, features, and levels of the site. From this, conceptual designs in 2d and 3d are produced for discussion and further development along with concept images.

III. detailed Design

Once our concept design is agreed, technical drawings are developed. These include our general arrangement drawing, setting out plan and all other relevant plans and cross sections which are necessary to help convey our design intentions to the contractor.

IV. Planting Design

Our planting plans show the locations of all individual plants, along with a plant schedule listing names, sizes and quantities which is used for procuring plants, ordering and setting out. Mood images of all plants within our schemes is included along with a plant maintenance schedule.

v. tender & build

The tender package is sent to the contractor to quote. We work with a range of reputable contractors to bring our designs to life. Once the build is underway, we offer the option for regular site visits to monitor progress and respond to any changes to ensure your garden design is built according to our plans.

vI. aftercare

We understand that gardens are living spaces and believe that a well-maintained garden will provide you with a connection to nature and pleasure year after year. We can offer tailored packages that include regular visits to ensure that your garden is evolving according to plan, and to check that it is being correctly maintained. We work with well-respected horticulturists and gardeners who we can recommend to care for your garden.
